Should MEPCO change / relax its rules ?

MEPCOiites,
Our college is celebrating its 25 years, it is a wonderful achievement for any private engg college. It has produced many University rank holders, life time achievers etc, etc. But whatever we have achieved is always belittled by strict / harsh rules set, for many they have been dampers. College time is a wonderful period when each of us with dreams try to fly but most time in fear of punishment we failed to fly. Many of us inspite of being rank holder have felt hard to survive in the begining. These rules have inculcated a sense of pessimism in us, we fear more and think of negative consequences.
I am opening the blog so many of us can share our views and contribute to the existing students. I am not sure if such sites are ever read or allowed to be opened in our college , still I wish to make a attempt.
Thanks
Maha (1995 - 99 EEE)

I like your passion to do something about these problems in Mepco. Some of my thoughts below on how I proceed on this. If I am doing this, I would do the following.

1. there must be a clear understanding of what the final result is going to be. In other words, what do you want to achieve.
2. there must be some understanding of the different perspectives in this situation. If I were doing this, I would see the situation from the perspective of a alumni, a current student, a parent of a student, a professor in the college, the college principal, the board of administrators/owners of the college. There are different set of incentives, financial, social and moral incentives, at play for these various people. A good understanding of these is absolutely critical.
3. Come up with multiple proposals to achieve the goal described in (1).
4. Analyze these different proposals with respect to the impact to the stake holders defined in (2).
5. Then depending on what you think after step (5). Publish the proposal that has the most chances of success via various mediums. If there is a good proposal I would start with the principal of the college and get as many people as possible excited about idea and help you reach the goal.

Dr. Balakrishnan was real good at listening to proposals and analyzing them. Atleast getting the principal and the teachers on your side is required if you really want to make a change in Mepco. In my humble opinion, a blog collecting different student's and alumina's views will not result in any change in Mepco.

we are allowed to open blogs (atleast they haven't blocked the word 'blog' or blogger.com)

But there are plenty of chance that people in mepco may take these type of activities as anti-mepco and may think that these things will affect the academic performances of students..

So if somebody notices these things then the access to blogs will be denied !!!

people writing about mepco may be suspended from the college (LOL)...

Hello!
Came via Frank's blog.

I am of the opinion that teachers form the backbone of an educational institution. For all its merits, the number of inspiring teachers at Mepco can be counted on one hand while having coffee with the other.
Fresh minds, skilled ones, that can rise up to the meaning of faculty will help towards a more progressive college. The remote location of the college might be a deterrent to this.

hi ,
I passed out of mepco last yr. Well, it is a mental agony to be in the college. At times you get depressed. We were never able to voice our views. We had more freedom in school. This college is centuries behind. Students are never encouraged to be innovative. The college management should realise that the students are going to lead a life in a corporate world where women and men are treated equal. Simply they are male chauvinists. They are fucked up rite in their mind. The most pitiful thing is that they dont realise their mistake.

Take your blog to the public. Let every one know what is happening there in MEPCO. Just write as many post and make them hit the first page on google search when people search for MEPCO or MEPCO hostel etc... it is possible, I already did that with my blog here! http://bench3.blogspot.com/search/label/MEPCO
